I forced my wife to attend Lindsey Stirling at the Ohio State fair. Lindsey Stirling is a violinist and dancer who I found on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Initially I tried to take my wife to see her in Indianapolis this past Christmas but I wasn't able to make the schedule work, so I was super happy when she showed up on the Ohio State Fair Concert Series announcements.
The fair itself was very busy - we arrived via 17th from 4th - the friends who met us there came via i-71 and 17th and had significant delay. For example, we had already grabbed corn dogs, fried cheese on a stick, and were exiting the big candy tent by the time they finally caught up.
The performance itself was really fun! It was entertaining for a wide variety of people in the audience - my wife was surprised with how diverse the crowd was. The opening band was Walk Off The Earth and they had some really fun renditions of songs - ending with all four of them playing a single instrument together.
Lindsey Stirling was great! Her ability to play while dancing was really neat to see in person (and not just via TikToks) and it was a neat experience to have.
I picked up some stickers for my collection from the Walk Off The Earth mech store and a tour T-shirt from Lindsey Stirling's merch store. I didn't find any Lindsey Stirling stickers sadly - probably the only downside of the evening?
By the time the performance was over, it was dark outside. We walked around a bit and grabbed some pizza (which always hits differently at the fair.)
Randomly, we learned that all the vendors have to use the Ohio State Fair provided payment processing equipment because the Fair takes a cut of all the sales. Interesting.
